Terminal Operations

Vehicle Terminals

The operation and management of RoRo terminals and intermodal hubs is an essential part of the vehicle delivery logistics chain. In the early 1990’s UECC realised there was a requirement to support its core business of vehicle transportation with the addition of terminal operations.

This potential was initially realised in 1993, when a dedicated export terminal with state-of-the-art track & trace systems and EDI links was established in Grimsby (UK). Operations at this terminal were developed to enable the tracking of vehicles from 3 months prior to factory-build, right through to final delivery to receivers at up to 20 different European destinations.

Following this important start, UECC has together with selected partners and sub-contractors, designed and developed vehicle terminal facilities at a number of key European ports. These include Pasajes (Spain), Yenikoy (Turkey), Vigo (Spain) and Bristol (UK). The majority of compounds have facilities for receipt of vehicles by road and rail, linked directly to quayside operations.

UECC's involvement in vehicle terminals varies in complexity and can be tailored to individual customer needs. In addition to vehicle handling and storage, services are provided for pre-delivery inspection (PDI), vehicle dewaxing, washing, cleaning, repair, wrap-guard fitment or removal, and accessory mounting. In some cases full body-building and technical workshop facilities are also available.

IT Systems

The technology in use and IT links to customers have continued to develop in sophistication over the years. In addition to the ability to monitor individual vehicle movements, UECC has developed web-based applications to give customers easy access to up-to-date tracking information.

UECC's Vehicle Distribution and Terminal System (VDAT) provides the basis to support the successful management of vehicle terminal processes. The functionality supported by UECC’s systems includes the receipt, validation and transmission of vehicle movement data, stock management and the recording of any in-transit damage. In addition we are able to interface with all current OEM systems to meet communication and reporting requirements.
